Cuddle-Puppies

At three weeks old, the puppies are becoming more aware of the world around them. Their ears are fully open, their eyes have been open for a while and are starting to focus more clearly, they're walking more each day, and they're beginning to interact with each other and with people in new ways.
This is also when cuddling becomes even more important.
When young puppies are held, touched, and cuddled gently, they start to learn that people are safe, warm, and comforting. They learn the feel of human hands, the sound of human voices, and what it's like to be close to someone who cares for them.
They also learn through small things we may not even think about. A puppy resting on my chest feels the slow rise and fall of my breathing. She hears my heartbeat. She feels my warmth. She learns my scent, including the smell of my breath, and begins to connect those sounds and smells with comfort, safety, and pleasure.
At this age, cuddling isn't about spoiling them. It's part of helping them grow into confident, people-loving dogs. Every calm interaction teaches them that being handled is normal, and that humans belong in their safe world.
Of course, I still keep it gentle and brief. Puppies this young need plenty of sleep, warmth, nursing, and time with Tika. But spending a few quiet minutes holding them each day is one of the simple ways I help them grow into affectionate family companions.
And judging by this little one, the cuddle-puppy training is going very well.
